Lewis Carl, an artist from Greenville, South Carolina, approached me about documenting his artistic process through photographs. After brainstorming together we decided on a 4 step process, illustrating the creation of his canvas all the way to the final highlights and details. Over the next 6 months we would meet up in the basement of a theater house; he would paint, and I would take photographs. During those times we shared many stories, and I learned about his life in Italy with his family as a missionary. Lewis's time spent in Italy transformed his art and person, and he came back to the states painting the landscapes and culture he had fallen in love with. Pictures tell far more than my words can, so I will let them do the speaking from here.
